The village of Tarleton has had a football team since the First World War and eventually Tarleton Corinthians evolved, joining the Southport and District Football League in the 1935-36 season.
A local farmer let them use one of his fields to play on and their changing accommodation was the local British Legion Club. The first kit that they played in was bought with clothing coupons, a far cry from today's sponsrships. In the season 1946-47 a second team was formed, a mode of transport of the day, a local produce merchants wagon, carried the teams to their away games.
A Sunday team was entered in the Southport and District League in the 1976-77 season and two years later a second Sunday team entered.
The Saturday section of the Club joined the Lancashire Amateur League in the 1988-89 season with two teams and after the early success with the first team a third team was entered. The Club colours were all red as they are today.
Following the Saturday sections move to a higher standard, the Sunday team moved into the Lancashire Evening Post League in 1992-93 successfully moving up the Divisions. The 1993-94 season was highlighted by a Cup victory at Deepdale, a night to remember for the Club.
To sustain the future of the Club a junior section was established in May 1999, this has proved a successful venture.
In 2001-02 the Club entered the Preston and District Football League with two teams, a third being added in 2004-05.
Girls football was introduced in 2004-05 with a team entered into the West Lancashire League. There are currently 15 junior football teams representing Tarleton Corinthians in the Mid Lancashire Colts, Central Lancashire Junior Football League, Craven Minor and West Lancs Girls Leagues. 3 senior teams play in the Preston and District Football League and the club also provides football for veterans.
The Club continues to go from strength to strength and in the season 2003-04, Charter Standard was awarded along with a Football Foundation grant which was used to improve playing and changing facilities.
The Club now boasts some the best facilites for many a mile. Considering its meagre beginnings, Tarleton Corinthians can be proud of where it is now, we look forward to offering a warm welcome to all of our competitors and providing football at Carr Lane for many years to come.
